Also known as: Polygar Hound, Indian Ghost Hound
Origin: Tamil Nadu, India
The Rajapalayam is a tall, elegant sighthound from Tamil Nadu, traditionally used to hunt wild boar. Pure white with a pink nose, it's loyal to its family and reserved with strangers — the kind of dog that picks one human and bonds for life.
Tamil Nadu native, so handles southern Indian heat well. White coat reflects sun. Ensure shade and constant fresh water during summer.
High-protein diet — rice + chicken + a bit of curd works. Sighthounds need lean protein for muscle. Two meals a day for adults.
The Rajapalayam appears on a 2005 Indian postage stamp celebrating native dog breeds. Once almost extinct, it's slowly making a comeback as more Indians embrace native dogs.
