Also known as: Caravan Hound, Karwani, Pashmi
Origin: Mudhol, Karnataka, India
The Mudhol Hound is a tall, slender sighthound from Karnataka — built for speed and endurance. Adopted by the Indian Army and police forces for tracking and surveillance, the Mudhol is one of the few Indian breeds with formal recognition.
Bred for the dry heat of north Karnataka. Handles south + central Indian climate well. Less suited to high-humidity coastal climates without AC.
Lean protein heavy — chicken, eggs, fish. Twice daily. Skip cheap dry-only diets — Mudhol metabolism does better with home-cooked.
The Indian Army's first canine unit to use a native breed for border patrolling at Wagah was a Mudhol Hound named Veera. Indian-bred, deployed in India.
